Current Characters in Route: Jake English (
hoperaider ) and Mom Lalonde (
matini )
Character
Name: Wolfram von Bielefeld
Series: Kyo Kara Maoh!
Timeline: After getting his heart ripped out
Canon Resource Links: Kyo Kara Maoh!
Personality: On the surface, Wolfram has an incredibly short temper, especially when it concerns Yuuri, the Maoh of his country and fiancé. He comes off as arrogant, bratty, and incredibly spoiled. At the same time, Wolfram is proud of his heritage and skills. He also refuses to show any emotions he sees are a sign of weakness. For example, if Wolfram is in pain, he will mask it with anger and annoyance in order to protect himself. He feels over-protective of Yuuri, and will get jealous if he starts talking to beautiful women or handsome men. This usually leads to him calling his fiancé out on it, shouting names like cheater or in some cases slut. Sometimes he'll even get violent about it.
There are many facets to his personality. He does have a kind and caring side to him, but he doesn’t know how to express it, except around children. For example, he's more than willing to make time to read a book aloud to Greta, and is notably more gentle when around her. Wolfram can thank someone, but he has no idea how to convey that gratitude, other than grudgingly. He really does love his mother and brothers, even Conrart, despite Conrart’s heritage as a half-demon. When Wolfram displays truly admirable swordsmanship and magical prowess, he will not boast about his skills, but be very calm and solemn about it. Although he’s hard on his soldiers during training, he honestly cares about their lives, which is why he’s so hard on them.
Wolfram is also insecure when it comes to Yuuri. He is afraid that Yuuri will call off the engagement, and marry someone else who ‘deserves’ him more. Since his fiancé has not made a move as to whether he will call it off or marry Wolfram, he tries his hardest to prevent Yuuri from falling for another. At the same time, he doesn’t want to force Yuuri to marry him. He wants his fiancé to marry him because he truly loves him, not out of duty or sympathy or anything of the sort. He has a habit of calling Yuuri a 'cheater' whenever girls/guys flirt with him. This is because he continuously sees his mother moving from one man to the next in her mad quest to find love, and the fact that she has had three husbands does not give Wolfram any incentive to be like her.
He loves children, so much so that he drops most of his anger toward people and stays relatively calm around them. Wolfram enjoys spending time with them, and even smiles more when he is around a child. This is more commonly seen with Greta, his and Yuuri's child, because he spends more time around her. Wolfram is also highly protective of children, even going so far as to shield a child from a ring of fire in one episode in season two of the anime.
Something essential to note about his personality is Wolfram's fierce loyalty when it's earned. He's very suspicious of people's motives to balance out Yuuri's more naive nature, and it can be tough to gain him as a friend as a result. His loyalty to his family is only rivaled to that of his loyalty and devotion to Yuuri. There are two examples in the anime that highlight this. One of which is when Conrart 'betrayed' everyone, and yet Wolfram refuses to believe his brother would turn his back on everything he cares about. The other is when he saves Yuuri from falling into a fissure, and stated that he was more than willing to die with his fiance if it came down to it.
Another thing to note is that he's very blunt to everyone. Wolfram doesn't bother sugar-coating his words, and states his opinion firmly and with confidence. He won't back down unless Conrart, Gwendal, his mother, or Yuuri tell him to. Though rash, Wolfram is more than capable of giving compelling and well-founded reasons for believing as he does on certain matters, such as the time he convinced Yozak and Conrart to let him go with them up a mountain covered in miasma that makes people who breathe it in extremely doubtful of anyone around them. There are also times in which Wolfram will leave to go after Yuuri without telling anyone or without permission to leave.
